ukbikeco. revolution
Sometimes you jump to a conclusion and form a opinion without
any
background knowledge. If you want it or not, it happens to everyone of
us. So one day I said that an 1,6 kg frame from a company no one knew
wouldn't hold up and that no one needed a sub 2 kg frame.
Well...what should I say? Apologize? Ignore such quotes or
maybe even
delete them sneakingly, the way other "zines" like doing it? BMX is
evolving so quickly these days, I think a apology is enough. So here
you go: I'm sorry.
As I was holding the new ukbikeco. revolution frame in my
hands for the
first time, which leichtsinn was given to directly from ukbikeco, I was
more than surprised.
The scale really said 1,6 kg and the quality of the frame is top notch.
I wanted to measure everything on the frame, because I
thought with
the uber light tubing used it might have not been assembled that
accurately. All my prejudice and doubt dissolved after putting together
my bike with the new frame, which was now 600g lighter.
After some intense rides with the new sub 9kg bike (d'oh) i
can say
that it has one of the most well balanced geometries I have ever
ridden. Of course the whole bike has to fit together well.
Although it is so light it feels very good in the air, it
rotates
extremely easily. Only bunny hops feel a little bit weird, I would say
it is because of my heavy freecoaster pulling down in the back.
Design has a pretty big role in BMX and thats where the
revolution's
seat tube doesn't convince everyone. But there is no
accounting for
taste. Technically there a not many frames out there that are so
convincing to me and I think that should still be the most important
part of a frame. The 75° head angle in combination with the 100mm head
tube make a very agile steering which you get used to after a few
minutes.
Fact is, the friendly guys from England know their trade.
There is
nothing to add. If you don't like the low slung top tube there will be
two more frames to choose from, they will even have space for a seat
clamp.
The tested version is a 21", but a pre production frame with
cable
guides welded on the frame. The frame has already been ridden by Mark
Webb and so you can be sure that it has been tested for its stability.
Was it the 2kg limit from last year that made me doubt? At least now
there are other companies offering frames having the same weight.

Personally I would like a bike which is a little heavier
because I
still have my principals. Sorry for all the moral and non technical
talk but the weight weeny topic is always leading to heavy and
sometimes hard to follow discussions in the world of anonymity of the
internet.
